The new taxiway will reduce the runway occupancy time by 9-10 seconds

s part of the ongoing efforts to upgrade the overall ‘Airside Efficiency’ at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (CSIA), Mumbai International Airport (MIAL) recently commissioned a new Rapid Exit Taxiway N5 for runway 09. The new taxiway RET N5, which is located on the Northern side of primary runway 09-27 will reduce the arrival ROT by 9- 10 seconds. Taxiway N-5 is going to be the only RET for Runway 09 and it will ensure optimum utilisation of this runway. This initiative will upgrade the capacities of Runway 09 and bring it almost at par with that of Runway 27. The location of this taxiway has been aptly designed (located at a distance of 2145 m from the threshold) to facilitate all wide-body aircraft to vacate runway 09 after landing with ease. RET N5 which is capable of handling Code-F aircraft (such as A-380 and others alike) has a length of 415 mtrs. With this successful commissioning, MIAL has completed one more key recommendation made by NATS, a global leader in air traffic services and solutions for capacity enhancement, at CSIA. The first flight to utilize this taxiway today was a Jetlite Boeing 737aircraft at 11.37 hours and it was welcomed with a “Water Cannon” salute.
