The airline boasts of close to 200 destinations on its route network including about 155 international destinations
TA currently boasts of a network of about 195 destinations including 155 international routes. Its European network alone is spread over more than 80 cities. The airline is serving 24 destinations in Africa, which is expected to grow to 30 destinations by the year end. New destinations are coming up in Nigeria, Ghana and Ivory Coast. “We are also looking at further expanding our network in the US, the UK and Africa. We are a network carrier. And want to provide widest possible network to our passenger base worldwide,”said Adnan Aykac, General Manager – Northern & Eastern India, Turkish Airlines.
Talking about the India network, Aykac said that the airlines is keen to grow its route network in India, however, for that to happen TA first has to expand the bilateral civil aviation ties with India, which is under progress. He said, “We operated seven weekly in China a year ago but have expanded by 300 per cent since. If we have similar opportunity in India we can do the same here.” Talking about the recent TAAI convention in Istanbul hosted by Turkish Tourism and supported by TA to boost Turkey’s destination
profile in India, Aykac said that he is expecting about 20 per cent growth in Indian arrivals to Turkey. He however also stressed, “We are a network carrier and will continue to look at expanding our passenger base in India to feed our global network.”
|TA to Edinburgh from July
Kigali (Rwanda), Bilbao (Spain) and Leipzig (Germany) starts in MayWith existing services to London, Manchester and Birmingham in the UK, Turkish Airlines now adds flights to Edinburgh, the capital city of Scotland, scheduled to begin on July 16th, 2012. Flights will operate 4 times per week, on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. The airline has also recently added three new destinations to its network, Kigali (Rwanda), Bilbao (Spain) and Leipzig (Germany). All the three routes began in May.
|Special fare for agency staffsRecognising the important role that the travel agents play as the airline’s distribution arm in India, Aykac informed that for agencies’ staffs, TA offers specially discounted fares to Istanbul and the local domestic network within the country. For agency staff the return airfare to Istanbul is Rs 5,000 and airport taxes and Rs 10,000 plus tax includes return domestic air as well!|
