Tourism New Zealand aims to expand the India market

The NTO is looking at wooing business and incentives markets from India and plans to continue its marketing effort in the new financial year

ATN DeskTourism New Zealand reinforced itsongoing commitment to the Indianmarket this week with the announcementof its push into the businessevents and incentives market.Mischa Mannix-Opie, Tourism NewZealand’s new Regional ManagerSouth and South East Asia,announced the expanded focus forthe organisation while reinforcingthe continued commitment tomarketing New Zealand as a holidaydestination out of India.

“India is an important market forNew Zealand particularly astravellers visit after the typicalsummer high-season has concluded.Their welcomed arrival supportstourism operators through theshoulder season,” said Mannix-Opie.

“We welcomed more than 28,500visitors from India in the year endingFebruary 2012 and experienced 4.7per cent growth in total arrivals toNew Zealand between Decemberand February from the same periodlast year. “Holiday travellers grew2.5 per cent during the same periodand we look forward to seeing thiscontinue as we move into our highseason for Indian travellers visitingNew Zealand.”

Along with focusing on the leisurema r k e t , Ma n n i x -Op i e a l s oannounced a new focus on thebusiness events sector, includingmeetings, conferences, events andincentives. “Tourism New Zealandhas developed a Business EventsStrategy in the last 12 months andthis is now being implemented in keymarkets around the globe. India hasbeen highlighted as a key market inthis strategy that provides strongopportunities for New Zealand,” sheinformed.

“New Zealand is already an inspirationaldestination for Indianbusinesses that run incentiveprogrammes and we believe there isplenty more growth in this segmentgiven the exceptional product that weoffer,” Mannix-Opie says.

“Our relationships with key trade andairline partners will be important ingrowing this segment to NewZealand and we look forward toworking with them in the yearahead.” Tourism New Zealandconfirmed it will continue itsmarketing efforts in India into thenext financial year with its staff inMumbai.
