Ticketing Authority Process authorizesairlines to admit, refuse or limit ticketstock of individual Travel agents wef april1, 2010. Such a ruling from IATA cannothave surfaced in India without theapproval of APJC India. Two major TravelAgents’ Associations within APJC whichare to be the voice and defence of Travelagents are feared to be taking sides ofairlines to nail the coffin of Travel agencysystem in India.
The move has to be opposed with toothand nail by Travel agents. It is the samefailed ghost of “Transaction Fee”reappearing in another form.
So far, BSP was fixing ticket cappingbased on the turn over and insuranceguaranty offered by Travel agentswhereby Travel agents exercisedleverage to fix their limits. With the newsystem each Airline can decide whetherto admit a Travel agent or to refuse andto fix limits arbitrarily. Whim and fancy ofbig player Airlines would decide the fateof ordinary Travel agents.
“Travel agents cannot be at the mercy ofAirlines, there must be clear mandates.Otherwise it is brutal Totalitarianism inAirline Industry” lamented a Travel agentdesolately. IAAI, the only Travel agents’association which is not yet admittedinto APJC has vowed to take the leadfight as with Agency commission issue.“It is a do or die situation for Travel agentsonce again after zero commission” saida spokesperson of IAAI.
